  Research Notes:

Baptism
Possible baptisms:
- 19 Apr 1568 in Horsmonden; father: John
- 30 Sep 1571 in Horsmonden; no parents given
- 18 May 1572 in Speldhurst; father: John.
- 24 Nov 1577 in Goudhurst; father: John; probably married in 1605 in same parish.

Wife
Reference in his will to his "now wife Mary" might imply that she was his second wife. However, there is no burial record for her nor a second marriage record for him to support such a hypothesis.

Edward Baker, "kinsman"
Bequest in his will to his "kinsman" Edward Baker. Aged over 21 otherwise he would have said for the bequest to be paid when Edward reached that age. Unlikely to be his brother or nephew otherwise he would have said so; more likely to be his cousin as per the following.

Possible baptisms before 1626:
- 20 May 1589 in Pembury; buried 6 Mar 1591
- 6 Feb 1597 in Cranbrook; father: William
- 29 Mar 1600 in Hadlow; father: Mark; no further marriage or burial records identified
- 26 Dec 1616 in Hellingly, Sussex; father William; married on 25 Apr 1654 in Cranbrook.

William Baker 1:
- Married Catherine Bathurste on 26 Sep 1580 in Horsmonden
- Had a daughter (Dorothy) baptised on 14 Aug 1583 in Horsmonden.

William Baker 2:
- Had "infant children" buried on 2 Dec 1593 in Horsmonden; he was of Cranbrook
- Had children baptised in Cranbrook between 6 Feb 1597 (Edward) and 14 Apr 1605
- Was buried on 26 Dec 1615 in Cranbrook.

There are burial records for Catherine Baker in Cranbrook:
- 15 Dec 1588; possibly William 1's wife
- 15 May 1609; possibly William 2's daughter bap. 18 Feb 1600.

If William 1 and 2 were the same person, then he was probably born before 1555 - about 24 years before Robert. It is unlikely that he was Robert's father or brother because Robert would probably have stated such a relationship to Edward (brother, half-brother or nephew).

Thus the most likely hypothesis is that William was Robert's uncle and Edward was Robert's cousin (probably by William's second wife).
