  General Notes:

MATHILDE, daughter of --- (-before [31 Mar/23 Oct] 1168). Her marriage is confirmed by a charter dated Feb 1199 which recalls a donation to the leprosery of Grand-Beaulieu near Chartres by "Amauricus de Monteforti", with the consent of "Amauricus parvus filius eiusdem Amaurici, qui erat sub custodia Amaurici de Mestenon", confirmed after his death by "Simon frater eius et successor", and a later donation by "Simon iste comes Ebroicensis et Mahaudis uxor eius". She was related to Henri I Comte de Champagne: "Henricus Trecensium comes palatinus" donated revenue from the fair at Provins to Haute-Bruyère, for the soul of "Matillis Ebroicensis comitisse consanguinee mee", by charter dated to [31 Mar/23 Oct] 1168.

Simon & his wife had three children: Amaury, Simon and Bertrade.

No reliable source for Maud's ancestry. Some have her as daughter of Robert de Beaumont & Petronilla de Grantmesnil (I have that Maud as wife of William Lovel, with dates that would preclude her from also marrying Simon de Montfort). One person has her as daughter of Ranulph le Meschin de Gernon, 4th Earl of Chester, by Maud FitzRobert. This is a possibility, however I would think (because Ranulph & Maud weren't married until 1141) it more likely that Maud was a daughter of Ranulph by some 1st wife before 1141, or that Maud FitzRobert herself might be Simon's wife, as her 2nd husband after Ranulph le Meschin d. in 1153. @@check ancestry 1
