Walter FitzEdward de Salisbury Sheriff of Wiltshire 1 2 3 4
General Notes: WALTER FitzEdward de Salisbury (-1147). The Book of Lacock names "Walterum de Saresburia" as son of "Edwardum…vicecomitem Wiltes". Sheriff of Wiltshire during the reign of King Henry I. Military fee certifications in the Red Book of the Exchequer, in 1166, record that "Walterus de Sireburne" used to hold one knight´s fee from the abbot of Glastonbury in Somerset "tempore Regis Henrici" (presumably indicating King Henry I) and that "comes Patricius" now held the same. Walter married Sibyl de Chaources, daughter of Patrice [III] de Chaources and Mathilde de Hesdin, between 1115 and 1120. (Sibyl de Chaources was born in 1100, died before 1147 4 and was buried in Bradenstoke Priory, Bradenstoke, Wiltshire, SN15, GB 4.) |
