• Will, 18 Aug 1639, Crowhurst, Battle, East Sussex, TN33, GB. In the name of God Amen the Eighteenth of August Anno Domini 1639 I Thomas Peckham of Crowhurst in the Countie of Sussex being sicke in bodie but of good &perfect minde & memory praised bee almightie god for it doe make this my last will & testament in writinge in manner & forme following vizt Imprimis I give & bequeath my soule into the hands of Almightie god my Creator trusting through the only meritts of Jesus Christ my Saviour to receive everlastinge life in the kingdome of heaven my body to be buried in the parish churchyard of Crowhurst att the discretion of my Executrix hereafter named Item I give & bequeath my eldest son Thomas Peckham twentie pounds of lawfull English monie to be paid unto Thomas Turner of Whatlington in the said Countie husbandman & John Peckham of Fletching in the said Countie husbandman or to the Survivor of them to the only use & behoofe of him the said Thomas Peckham my sonn within six moneths next after my decease & upon such payment hereof my will & desire is that they the said Thomas Turner and John Peckham shall give good Securitie to my said Executrix hereafter named to pay the said twentie pounds to my said sonn Thomas att his age of one and twentie yeares together with the interest of the said monie after the rate of five pounds per Centum until the said Thomas shall come of full age as aforesaid Item I give & bequeath unto my sons Robert Peckham & Richard Peckham twentie pounds of like lawfull English monie to bee paid unto them att their severall ages of one and twentie yeares Item I give & bequeath unto Margarett Peckham & Anne Peckham my daughters ten pounds a peece to bee paid unto the said Thomas Turner & John Peckham or to the Survivor of them to the only use & behoofe of them the said Margarett & Anne Peckham within six monethes next after my decease & upon such payment hereof my will & desire is that they the said Thomas Turner &John Peckham shall give good Securitie to my said Executrix to pay the said tenn pounds a peece to each of my said daughters att their severall & respective ages of one and twentie yeares or dayes of marriage which shall first happen they the said Thomas Turner & John Peckham [torn page] … well & sufficiently educatinge & bringing upp the said Margarett & Anne until they shall attaine unto their said severall ages or dayes of marriage with the interest & benefit of the said twentie pounds Item my will & minde further is that if either of my said children Thomas Margarett or Anne should happen to die before their said porcions hereby bequeathed unto them shall bee due & payable then I will & bequeath the porcion of him her or them of my said three eldest children soe dying before his her or their porcions shall become due & payable to the Survivors or Survivor of them to bee equally devided between them att the age & time before lymitted And if either of my said sonnes Robert or Richard shall happen to die before hee shall attaine unto his full age of one & twentie years then I will & bequeath the legacie of him soe dying to the Survivor of them to be paid unto him as aforesaid And of this my last Will & testament I make constitute & appoint Suzan Peckham my loveing wife my sole Executrix & give & bequeath unto her All my goods & Chattells debts & Creditts whatsoever my debts and legacies herein bequeathed unto my said Children & funerall expences first paid & discharged revoking all former wills by me heretofore made And I make the said Thomas Turner & John Peckham Overseers of this my will desireing them… to bee assistant to my said wife in the execution hereof In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my marke & sealed the same with my seale the day & yeare above written sig Thomas Peckham Sealed subscribed published delivered in the presence of John Newington John Fuller sig Thomas Turner
