• Will, 14 Aug 1669. In the name of God Amen the fourteenth day of August in the one and twentieth yeare of the
raigne of our Sovereigne Lord Charles the Second by the Grace of God of England Scotland France
& Ireland King Defender of the faith &c I Arthur Button of Wadhurst in the Countie of Sussex
yeoman being at this present of good and perfect health and memory praised bee God doe make and declare
this to be my last will xxxx and testament And first as touching the disposall of my goods and chattels
and personal estate I give and bequeath as followeth that is to say unto my Grandchild Gabriel
Eagles five pounds within six months after my Decease (next line and a half crossed through)
Item I give to my
grandchild Thomas Porter five pounds to bee paid to him at his age of one & twentie yeares
Item I give unto Luce Chandler my Grandchild one hundred five pounds to bee paid unto her at her
age of Eighteene yeares or day of marriage which shall first happen Item I give unto
my daughter Chandler and her two sonnes namely John and Edward five pounds a piece
to bee paid unto every of them respectively within six moneths next after my decease Item I give
unto Jane Taylor my Grandchild five pounds to bee paid unto her within six moneths next after
my decease All the rest and residue of my goods and chattells leases bonds bills …… morgages plate
houshold stuff & utensills of husbandry I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth my loving wife whome
I make the sole Executrix of this my last will and I doe hereby revoke all former wills by mee
before this tyme made And as touching the disposall of my tenement and lands wherein I now
dwell beinge held by Coppie of Court roll as of the Manor of Bivelham in this Countie
of Sussex I doe will and devise the same (having before this tyme surrendered the same to the use
of my last will as by Law & Custome of the Mannor I ought to doe) in manner & forme
followinge that is to say I doe give & devise unto my Grandchild Elizabeth Chaundler

Coppihold Tenement wherein I now dwell togeather with all the barnes Stock Stables
gardens or yardlands meadowes pastures feedings woods premisses & appurtenances thereto
belonginge To have and to hold to the said (rest of line crossed out)
heires of her body lawfully begotten according to the custome of the [Manor] whereof the same Tenement
& landes are held And for want of such issue Then my Will and mind is that the same shall
revert to the right heires of mee the said Arthur for ever according to the custome aforesaid In witness whereof I the
said Arthur have hereto sett my hand and seale yeoven the day and yeare
