Will, 1541. 1541 - The will of ROBERT WHITFELDE the elder-of Wadherst,
Sussex ...sick of body ...to be buried in the churchyard of
Wadhurst ... to the high altar there for satisfaction of my for-
gotten tithes 6d . . . to the hearse light 4d . . .for the amendment
of foot ways ... to every of my godchildren 4d ... to twenty poor
people of Wadhurst 40s ... 53s.4d. to be bestowed at my owt
bearyng to priests, clerks and poor people. . .my household stuff
to be divided into three parts - one part to Agnes my wife and
my best cow, and she to choose her part first, the other two
parts to John and Thomas my sons equally to be divided, and to
every of them a cow . . . to Agnes my wife my best bed and all
things that belong unto it before the household stuff be divided. .
to Joan Gylis my maid servant 13s. 4d. at her marriage or 20 . .
unto Elizabeth my daughter 20s . . .unto William Gylis a coat . . .
John my son to pay to my executor within two years 10, then
he to be discharged of a certain bill . . to Robert Whitfeld my
son 20s ...residue to Thomas my son whom I make my sole
executor. Witnesses: Robt Whitfeld, John Whitfeld and Thomas Whitfeld.
