Will, Bef 10 Oct 1660, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7, GB. I John Mathew of Michaels parish in Lewes in the County of Sussex
Butcher being sick in body but of good memory declare and appoint
this my last will & Testament in manner following. Imprimis I will
that if my daughter Mary dye before shee attaines the yeare of
one and twenty or day of marriage that my Tenement
with the barne & gardens thereto belonging now or late in the
tenure or occupacon of Mr Wyllim Rose or his assigns lying in
Michaels parish aforesaid As also all that Tenement with the
appurtenances now in the occupacion of Goodman White Basketmaker
and also my Croft with the barne lying neare Fisherstreete as also
the orchards lying ? Primrose hill on the one side & both in my
owne occupaon shall be to the use & benefitt of my deare wife during her
naturall lyfe Provided that my personall estate be sufficient
to pay my debts otherwise my will is that my overseeres shall have
full power to sell to the best advantage my croft with the barne
& the orchard & with the moneys thereby raysed
to pay my debts & the overplus to give unto my Executrix
Item my will is that if my daughter Mary dye before she attaine
the age of one & twenty or day or marriage that my overseers
or any one of them or any one of their heirs my wife being dead shall have
full power & authority to sell & dispose of all my lands &
houses now in my own or other mens occupacon not otherwise
disposed of & the moneys so raysed shall equally divide
& pay unto my brother Thomas Mathew my sisters Elizabeth
Dodd & Ann Dabson or their heires & assignes Item I
make & appoint my wife Executrix of this my last will &
my loving friends Robert Swanne, Richard Russell and Walter
Postlethwaite all of Michaels in Lewes aforesaid overseers of
this my last will & testament to whom I give full power
to execute as above said In witnesse whereof
I have hereto subscribed in the presence of
