Berthe de Bretagne
General Notes: BERTHE de Bretagne (-[1158/64]). The Chronicon Britannico Alter records the death in 1148 of "Conanus Dux Britanniæ" and records that he had disinherited "Hoellus…suum…filium" and that he appointed as his successor "Eudone Vicecomite Porhoëtensi" who had married "sororem eius Bertam". Her first marriage is suggested by the Chronicon Kemperlegiensis which records the death in 1146 of "Alanus Niger, Conani Ducis gener". The primary source which confirms that it was Conan's daughter Berthe who married Alain has not yet been identified. Berthe married Alain de Penthièvre Seigneur de Guingamp, son of Étienne de Bretagne Comte de Penthièvre and Havise de Guingamp, about 1137.1 (Alain de Penthièvre Seigneur de Guingamp was born before 1100,1 died on 15 Sep 1146 1 and was buried in Abbaye Notre-Dame de Bégard, Bégard, Bretagne, FR 1.) Berthe next married Eudes II de Porhoët Comte de Porhoët, Duc de Bretagne, son of Geoffroy de Porhoët Vicomte de Porhoët and Hawise, before 1149.1 (Eudes II de Porhoët Comte de Porhoët, Duc de Bretagne died after 1180 1.) |
