Judith de Bretagne
General Notes: JUDITH de Bretagne (982-16 Jun 1017). Guillaume de Jumièges records the marriage at Mont Saint-Michel of Duke Richard and Judith sister of "Geoffroi comte des Bretons". According to Orderic Vitalis, Judith founded the abbey of Bernay, Eure in 1025, but this date is inconsistent with her date of death and her husband's second marriage. An agreement between the abbots of Jumièges and Bougeuil concerning an exchange of land in Poitou, by charter dated [13 Apr/4 Apr] 1012, is subscribed by "Richardus…filius Ricardi principi magni…Judith…". The Chronicle of Caen Saint-Etienne records the death in 1017 of "Judita comitissa". Judith married Richard [II] de Normandie Duc de Normandie, son of Richard [I] de Normandie Comte de Normandie and Gunnora, about 1000 in Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel, Mont-Saint-Michel, Manche, Basse-Normandie, 50170, FR.1 (Richard [II] de Normandie Duc de Normandie was born in Fécamp, Seine-Maritime, Haute-Normandie, 76400, FR, died on 23 Aug 1026 in Fécamp, Seine-Maritime, Haute-Normandie, 76400, FR and was buried in Abbaye de la Trinité de Fécamp, Fécamp, Seine-Maritime, Haute-Normandie, 76400, FR.) |
