Joan de Vauncy

  • Marriage (1): Thomas Munchensy of Edwardstone, Suffolk
  • Died: Between 1397 and 1402

  Research Notes:

Joan was joined with her husband in a papal indult for a portable altar, 27 Apr 1397.

Thus this Joan could not have been the daughter of Edward de Vauncy (died 1372) because in 1397 the latter was married to Thomas Prior, subsequently John Hore and died after 1415.

Nor could she have been the widow of Edward de Vauncy (died 1372) as she had died before his IPM in 1375.

However, Westerley Manor (previously held by the Creks and Vauncys) was conveyed by John Hore in 1422 to Richard Waldegrave, husband of Joan Munchensy, so there appears to be some link between the Crek, Vauncy and Munchensy families.

Joan married Thomas Munchensy of Edwardstone, Suffolk, son of Sir Thomas de Munchensy of Edwardstone, Suffolk and Unknown. (Thomas Munchensy of Edwardstone, Suffolk was born before 1343 and died before 16 Mar 1404 1.)
