• Manorial Estate, 1302-1324, Purley Parva Manor, Purley on Thames, Reading, Berkshire, RG8, GB. ² The manor of PURLEY PARVA (Purlew Westbrook, xvii cent.), assessed at half a hide, was held at the time of the Domesday Survey by Theodoric the Goldsmith, and had belonged in the reign of Edward the Confessor to Edward...William de Sifrewast was succeeded by his son Nicholas, whose heir, another William, in 1302 enfeoffed Henry Buskre of Malines and Cecily his wife, whose descendants held the manor for more than 120 years. Henry 'Malyns' died about 1324. Cecily survived him and was seised of the estate until her death in 1331; her heir was her son Edmund Malyns, then said to be thirty years old, though his age had been stated at twenty-eight and more in the inquest taken after his father's death.

In 1339 Edmund obtained licence to grant the property to his son Reynold Malyns and to Edmund de Hampden for life. (fn. 75) Reynold afterwards acquired also lands in Oxfordshire and became a knight. He died in 1384, leaving as his heir his son Edmund, on whose death in 1386 the manor of Purley Parva passed, for the only time during the Malyns' tenancy, to a minor. This was Edmund, the younger son of Sir Edmund Malyns, upon whom the estate had been settled for life with reversion to his father's heirs and contingent remainder to Thomas Barentyne and Joan his wife. Edmund Malyns died in 1399 and was succeeded by his elder brother Reynold.

• Manorial Estate, 1322-1324, Theydon Mount Manor, Theydon Mount, Epping, Essex, CM16, GB. ³ In 1322 John de Sutton leased the manor for twelve years to Henry de Malyns and in the following year released to him all his right in the property. Malyns must have died soon after, for in 1324 John de Sutton released his right in the manor to Edmund de Malyns, Henry's son and heir. In 1326 Edmund was pardoned for acquiring in fee this property which was held in chief of the Honor of Rayleigh and entering upon it without licence. In 1346 he held ½ knight's fee in Theydon Mount.

Sir John de Sutton of Dudley (Worc.), son of the above John and Margaret de Sutton, disputed de Malyns' title to the manor, claiming that it descended to him after the death of his parents. In 1348 and again in 1350 the matter was heard before the court of Common Pleas, but Malyns evidently won his case. He was apparently alive in 1357 but had been succeeded by his son Reynold Malyns before December 1361, when the latter presented to the rectory of Theydon Mount. Sir Reynold died in 1384 holding the manor jointly with his wife Florence. His son and heir was Edmund Malyns. Florence was still holding the manor in 1390. In 1400 the manor was conveyed by Thomas Waller and two others, presumably feoffees, to Reynold Malyns and his wife Alice and the heirs of Reynold. In 1418 Reynold and Alice conveyed the manor of Theydon Mount and Hill Hall to feoffees to hold of the chief lords with successive remainders to the heirs of Reynold and then to Edmund Hampden and his heirs. In 1428 Reynold was found to hold ½ fee in Theydon Mount formerly held by Richard de Sutton. He died in 1431. There is no specific reference to Theydon Mount in his will, nor any mention of children, and in 1434 Alice his widow released her right in the manor to Sir Hugh Halsham, kt., and others who held it by her feoffment.

• Manorial Estate, 1324, Parmoor Manor, Hambleden, Henley-on-Thames, Buckinghamshire, RG9, GB. ⁴ The so-called manor of PARMOOR (Pyremere, xiv cent.; Permer, xv cent.; Pamer, Parmor, xvii cent.; Palmoor, xix cent.) appears in Hambleden in the latter half of the 15th century, but it is not regularly called a manor until fifty years later. It passed as a messuage and lands held as parcel of Hambleden Manor for a small rent and suit at court by Henry de Malyns and his wife Cecily at his death about 1324. His son and heir Edmund was living in 1340, when a general release dated at Hambleden was made by John, another son of Henry de Malyns, to Edmund and his son Reginald. The latter, then Sir Reginald Malyns, kt., died seised in 1384, when his son and heir Edmund was aged thirty-three. In the next century Parmoor passed into the possession of Sir Robert Whitingham, a supporter of the Lancastrian cause, being included in his confiscated estates, which were granted by Edward IV to Sir Thomas Montgomery in 1462 for life and in 1464 in fee-tail...

Little Pourle. The manor (extent given), held jointly by the said Henry and Cecily his wife, to them and the heirs of the said Henry, by fine levied in the king's court between them and William Syffrewast, with the licence of king Edward I., of the king in chief by service of 1/4 knight's fee, and rendering 5s. yearly for the guard of the castle of Windsor.

Edmund his son, aged 28, is his next heir.

BUCKINGHAM. Inq. 24 March, 17 Edward II.

La Berewe alias la Burgh and Pyremere in Hameldene. Two messuages, 140a. land, and 2a. meadow, held jointly by the said Henry and Cecily as of the fee of the said Henry, of Hugh le Despenser, the younger, lord of the manor of Hameldene, by service of 12d. and suit at his court of Hameldene.

Heir as above, aged 28 and more.
